A Sustainable Salon

green salon collective Perfectly Posh, An Eco-Friendly Hair Salon In Hungerford

Perfectly Posh are now officially an eco-friendly hair salon in Hungerford after becoming part of The Green Salon Collective, an initiative that shares our salon’s ethos and is committed to sustainability, reducing waste and helping the environment.

The Green Salon Collective works to increase the recycling of waste within the salon and reduce pollution of the environment. They facilitate salon sustainability by recycling the unrecyclable. Hair, used foil and colour tubes, excess colour and bleach, PPE, plastics, paper and cups are all recycled and saved from landfill.

Now is time for us as an industry to stand up and take action now before it is too late and my #PerfectlySustainable mission is designed to encourage us as an industry to support each other in this mission, collaborate and share with one another.

Becoming greener and vegan as a salon is non-negotiable if we are to ensure sustainability. The first step in this journey is to become more aware, think about the impact your day to day salon life has on our planet, and make changes wherever possible.

How We Are Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

Perfectly Posh, An Eco-Friendly Hair Salon In Hungerford The biggest winner here is that they reward the planet by diverting easily recyclable materials that are currently being sent to landfill. The hair that is recycled can be used to either help adsorb oil from our waterways, be added into gardeners composting mixes, or if it’s long enough, be donated to wig making charities.

Aluminium foil is a commodity that can be recycled an infinite number of times. The Green Salon Collective also plant a tree for every returns box purchased – we have sent two boxes already!

Better still, all waste is collected from the salon using either electric vans or carbon-neutral transportation 100 % of the profits raised gets put back into local communities and charities. We recycle everything we can… being a green salon is extremely important and these foils, cans, and colour tubes will be recycled and 100% of this money goes to charities that help the homeless, the food cycle and tree planting.

‘Sustainable Salon Of The Year’ Award Nomination At BHBA

Perfectly Posh is extremely proud to have made it as a finalist in the prestigious BHBA 2023! in the ‘Sustainable Salon of the Year’ category.

Krysia continues;

green salon collective Perfectly Posh, An Eco-Friendly Hair Salon In HungerfordAt Perfectly Posh, I noticed the number of disposable plastic gloves we were using and discarding on a daily and weekly basis was frightening, and really damaging to our environment. I have since invested in bio-degradable gloves which the team are really excited and passionate about. I have also become very conscious of what we put down our sinks.

As with all hair salons, we have a considerable amount of colour wastage that we, unfortunately, have to dispose of down our sinks. We now work with Vish, a colouring weighing system. Working with them we will be able to dramatically reduce our colour wastage which will, in turn, stop us from throwing so much down our drains and into our oceans. This will also be more cost-effective for us as a salon.

This waste in-salon also applies to the hair that we cut. Following a client’s appointment, we would sweep this up and put it into our landfill bin which impacts our environment. As a result of this realisation, I contacted the Green Salon Collective who are doing some great work and they are able to collect our hair and make it into booms and mats.

The Green Salon Collective

green salon collective Perfectly Posh, An Eco-Friendly Hair Salon In HungerfordTaking this sort of creative approach to all aspects of your salon will surprise you in terms of where you can be greener and more eco-aware. I crafted the light in our backwash area from a branch I found and it is one of my favourite pieces in the salon, not to mention it is vegan and completely green! Consider your product company too, it won’t be possible for you as a salon to become more vegan and greener if your product house doesn’t offer something along those lines.

We work with Aveda as this sits well with our salon ethos and the variety of vegan products as well as recyclable packaging and ethically sourced ingredients, they provide ensures we are much kinder to our planet and can cater to those vegan clients too.
